PPV Recap - Showdown

We are LIVE in Bemidji, MN for a big turning point PPV. Mike Standish and Johnny Dice run down today's card. Johnny Dice makes a big point about how unhappy he is that there are no championship matches tonight because two out of the three belts are held up, and Silver Star champion Dixie Normous isn't wrestling. Mike tries to smooth things over

Segment One: Out comes the Crimson Queen, Kassandra Kane. She's got the mic and says that she's called in a few favors with the Title Committee to make her match with Bearonica for the Triple Crown Championship. Bearonica returns from her winter's nap (or whatever) and accepts the challenge. We are on and Bearonica dominates with some vicious power moves early on in the match. Kane takes control with an enziguri and both women are down. Dice keeps trying to convince Mike that Kassandra's really a vampire, instead of a LARP kid who has a rich dad that bought her sweet costume. Bearonica goes for another submission and...wait, is that the Prime Example? Are the rumors true about Kane and Goodman? She can't quite seem to figure it out and settles for a camel clutch. The crowd gets a little hot here and they cut to the expected finish quickly - Kane moonsaults off the top and gets her Triple Crown Championship back just like that.

Winner: Kassandra Kane via Humanity's Fall in 9:48.

Segment Two:  Soulbane is in the back with Bunny and tears off on an interview about conspiracies. He points out the relationship Kane has with Big Larry and talks about how the Stromowskis do what's best for them instead of the business. He's going to prove today that the Stromowskis can't control him. The promo was intense and dug into a little bit of the backstage drama behind the curtain. The fans seem to be wearing thin on Kane getting her belt back whenever she comes back from her "sabbaticals" because they eat up Soulbane's promo. Mike and Johnny do their best to get things back on script but even they seem a little bit flustered

Segment Three: Speaking of the boss's kid, Lance Stromowski comes out to a more jock jam style entrance than the lame Thor thing they were doing with him when he debuted. Lance can't clap on beat worth a damn, but at least they cleverly dressed him in local football team colors. Mr. Skyyn comes out to his music, except he's mopey instead of sleazy. Apparently bringing in the Ho Train upset his usual valet and she left him. So instead he's auditioning new valets and encourages fans send in pictures of their moms to him. He shows a few on screen...and ends with a picture of Lance's mom on his lap! That was the most elaborate setup for a mom joke ever. Lance is enraged of course and bounces Skyyn around for a few minutes with his limited power offense. Skyyn turns the tables with some good mat work, a few submissions, and then racks up Lance in the Pick-Up Line for the win. He may be the boss's kid, but both Skynn  and Goodman got some nuclear heat during the show, so it wouldn't surprise me if they both go over

Winner: Mr. Skyyn via Pick Up Line in 10:20.

Segment Four: Dixie Normous is with Bunny Mayweather. She may not be wrestling tonight but...

Off camera, Bearonica takes Soulbane's promo to heart. She's mad at herself for messing up the match and also mad that Kane booked herself to win again. She's getting ready to leave when Heidi comes in to talk about their upcoming tag match. Heidi calms Bearonica down and convinces her to stay through the rest of the PPV.

Segment Five: Classic cowboy music starts and out walks Tom Hawk. He calls out Soulbane right now to settle their issues. Soulbane comes out to his music and I guess we're having out main even now? Soulbane and Tom Hawk brawl for a few minutes before Mr. Skyyn runs in to cause a disqualification. This match existed only to set up the main event - a four way brawl for the Brass Knuckles belt between Soulbane, Hawk, Skyyn and Goodman.

Winner: Tom Hawk via DQ in 5:03.

Segment Six: Bearonica is frustrated backstage when Heidi comes in to talk about their match. Heidi calms her down and gets Bearonica to focus on getting revenge on Kane during their tag match. Bearonica agrees, and she also decides that she needs to take control of her destiny. Since Kane pulled some strings to make heir match a title bout, she's made the tag match a Hibernation Match. The only way to lose is to pass out or tap out!

Segment Seven: We're back ringside with Rick Goodman and Kassandra Kane coming to the ring in quick succession. I'm surprised they acknowledged the relationship between Goodman and Kane on air, though that's the risk of getting involved with Soulbane. He doesn't leave much behind the kayfabe curtain. Heidi and Bearonica come out separately but I wonder if they have plans to team them together again now that Kane is Triple Crown champ again. The match is a pretty wild brawl primarily between Bearonica and Rick Goodman. Heidi doesn't really get much to do, though that makes sense since she's still a wild brawler. I can only imagine the awful match to be had if she ever ended up with Lance. Things pick up after Bearonica rallies, but Kane crosses the ring to smash Heidi to keep her from tagging in. Hyde comes up bloody (like she always does) and they brawl through the audience. It seems like Bearonica and Goodman are a little confused out there for a minute or two, especially when Soulbane hits the ramp for some reason. but they end the match in a spectacular way. Goodman takes a Polar Plunge powerbomb on the apron and doesn't answer the count. Soulbane walks to the back, shaking his head to himself.

Winner: Bearonica/Heidi Hyde via Polar Plunge in 12:18.

Segment Eight: Freight Train comes out to his big entrance, followed by newcomer Rainbow Smash...

Backstage, morale seems low with Kane back on top. Mr. Skyyn discovers Train is still angry with him and asked to work with Rainbow Smash instead. Goodman explains why he called his audible. Even though he was supposed to go over Heidi Hyde, she powdered out with Kassandra when the time came for the finish. He thought his taking the loss would make more sense for the story. Bearonica needed her heat back, and he called the spot to take the Polar Plunge on the apron to let him save face but leave the crowd chanting for Bearonica. Looks like Rick has a head for the business. Soulbane confronts Bearonica about the truth of his conspiracy, claiming Rick did it to cover his ass.

...and hits the Morning Gory for the upset win!

Winner: Rainbow Smash via Morning Gory in 4:23

Segment Eight: It's time for our main event and Rick Goodman is out first...but he's got a mic in hand. He's claiming doctors won't clear him to wrestle the main event, so he's out for the night. Guess he and Kane had a dinner reservation. Anyway, Soulbane, Hawk and Skyyn are out for a fun re-do of last month's brawl. Soulbane comes out with his little red wagon of toys, and Hawk brings out his own wagon holding stuff closer to his gimmick like a tomahawk, a bow and so on. Much of the match is putting Skyyn down for a bit and then Soulbane and Hawk having more of the match they were supposed to have earlier in the show. At one point, Hawk looks like he's going to scalp Skyyn when he takes a chair to the back from Soulbane. Skyyn tries to sneak away, which gives Hawk time to recover. He hits Soulbane AND Skyyn with Geronimo's Revenge and puts Soulbane on top of Skyyn but Soulbane rolls off. He sists back on his knees and clearly mouths, through a blood mouth "I thought you were here to fight?" to Hawk. Hawk obliges for a few more minutes, including snapping the bowstring on Soulbane and Skyyn, which has got to be the most painful hardcore move I have ever seen. (Anyone that's every been to a Boy Scout archery camp will agree). Soulbane takes his title back, and the PPV ends with him celebrating amidst the crowd chaning "F*** Stromowski clap clap clapclapclap*

Winner: Soulbane via pinfall in 13:45.

Midway Mixed Wrestling brings the best in mixed gender professional wrestling across the Midwest region. Our fans clamor for the latest in news, rumors and updates from our live shows before our next live televised event.

  • The title committee has been in meetings all week over both the Triple Crown Championship and the Brass Knuckles Championship. MMW president Larry Stromowski wants these matters settled as soon as possible.
  • Both Kassandra Kane and Bearonica have been seen leaving MMW title committee meetings.
  • Soulbane's been making life tough for both Rick Goodman and Mr. Skyyn on the road. His presence has cost both men matches which can't reflect well on their rankings for further title shots.
  • Heidi Hyde may be back in the fans' good graces but she still needs to get on the same page as Bearonica, hopefully before their tag match against Rick Goodman and Kassandra Kane.
  • Rainbow Smash makes his PPV debut at Showdown, facing off against fan favorite Freight Train.
  • Will Tom Hawk and Soulbane patch up their issues and provide a united front to Mr. Skyyn and Rick Goldman's meddling? Who holds the Brass Knuckles championship?

PPV - Vengeance

We are LIVE in Lawrence, KS for the next big Midway Mixed Wrestling Pay-Per-View. Mike Standish and Johnny Dice run down today's card and bring the important story elements. Tonight, Heidi Hyde talks about the controversial ending of the last PPV. Mr. Skyyn declares which championship he's going after with his Redemption Rumble shot. Two debuts, including the return of the Brass Knuckles Championship! And we go to the ring, where Bunny Mayweather makes the ring introductions.

Segment One: "Dusty"Armstrong comes down to the ring and says he's ready to fight. Real cowboy music starts up and Tom Hawk makes his MMW debut! Dusty gets the early advantage with some basic brawling, but misses an awkward looking top rope dive to lose his momentum. Tom debuts a new version of his cutter finish, with the crowd shouting "Geronimooooo!" as Dusty goes down.

Winner: Tom Hawk via Geronimo's Revenge in 3:18.

Backstage: Rick and Heidi are pulled aside. Rainbow Smash is a no show, so Larry needs to rebook the show on the fly. He puts Rick and Heidi in a match together, based on Rick backing out of his match with Dixie and Heidi challenging him to a fight.

Segment Two: Heidi skates out to interview with Bunny Mayweather. Looks like her fans in Lawrence still love her. The two women exchange pleasantries and then Bunny gets down to business. Why did Heidi run away from the ring at the end of her championship match? Heidi says that she has too much respect for Bearonica and their relationship is too important to let a championship come between them. The fans understand that. Bearonica deserves the Triple Crown championship and the Title Committee should award it to her as soon as possible.

Some familiar music hits, and out comes Kassandra Kane to the ring. She thanks Heidi for keeping the Triple Crown title held up. Kane says she never lost it, so now that she's back, it should be around her waist. She also offers Heidi some advice - don't do anything for the fans. Being a champion is why anybody who is worth anything is in the business and Heidi should consider that now that she's embarking on a career as a wrestler.

Heidi gives Kassandra some advice of her own...by tearing off the Vampire Queen's white wig! Heidi's ready to brawl but Kane flees the scene while the fans chant "LOST YOUR WEAVE!"

Segment Three: Freight Train comes out to his high-energy entrance. He really knows how to get the fans fired up with his dancing and clapping. He's facing Mr. Skyyn, who comes out...to Freight Train's music? Not only that, it looks like he's rounded up some members of the local exotic dancer community to dress as sexy conductors. Skyyn produces a mike, says "Hey, I know a little something about trains too!" and the match is on! this match never quite gets into gear. Skyyn seems to be working a little too stiff for Train's freewheeling style. The King of Sleaze pulls out the when he uses one of the conductors as a human shield when the action spills outside, smashes Train's head into the announce table, and rolls him in for the ring for a quick pin.

Winner: Mr. Skyyn via announce table head smash in 7:50.

Segment Four: Rick Goodman appears backstage with Bunny Mayweather. He's got a match with Silver Star champion Dixie Normous next, but it's not for the title, which pisses him off. He seems to think there's no point if he's not in a championship match, so he calls it off! Just off frame, we hear "Hey, I'm looking for a fight tonight." Heidi Hyde steps into frame and challenges Rick to a match. Rick accepts, figuring if he beats Heidi, he'll move up to challenge whoever ends up with the Triple Crown championship.

Segment Five: We cut to a candid promo featuring Soulbane. He's holding a rusty belt and is covered in dirt. This ties into the mysterious promos aired during live shows featuring a mysterious figure digging up a grave. Soulbane says he's bringing back the Brass Knuckles championship to show the other wrestlers in Midway Mixed how its done. Wait, did he literally dig that up from Sven Odinson's grave? Or was that whole "buried with his championship" thing storyline?

Segment Six: Looks like El Coyote will be facing La Reina Lucha instead, since we cut back to him entering the ring. Sure enough, the lights go out, the bass kicks up, and out comes Dixie lip synching to his entrance music...

Meanwhile, backstage is busy as usual. Seems that Train is upset at Skyyn for mocking his entrance. Kane confronts Heidi for pulling her wig, but before things get too heated, Hawk steps in and reminds her Larry (the owner) promised him a championship match. Kathy (Kassandra's real name) assures him he'll get his shot once the Triple Crown isn't held up. The only reason it is is thanks to Heidi botching the ending of the last PPV, so now they have to fix it in kayfabe. They also had to rebook this match to cover for a debuting wrestler who had some travel issues. Kathy doesn't seem too happy with their popular rookie. the one thing everyone agrees on? It's spooky how Soulbane stays in character, even backstage.

...and finishes El Coyote off by reversing the Bogota Bomb into the Mama-Can-Rana for the win. Not the best match between these two. It seemed a little rushed, even if it had some good spots mixed in.

Winner: Dixie Normous via Mama-Can-Rana in 12:36.

Segment Seven: Tom Hawk is with Mike Standish near the entrance area. This interview establishes Tom;s character for those fans who haven't seen his work in other federations. He's part cowboy, part Indian and all outlaw. He appreciates a good fight, so he's accepting Soulbane's open challenge for the Brass Knuckles championship.

Segment Eight: Looks like it's time for Heidi Hyde vs. Rick Goodman. Rick comes down in a new sweatshirt. Looks like MMW might finally be producing some merch. Still the same crappy music, though. That's part of the character, of course, and you really can't hear it over the boos. He's pretty over and if the rumors are true about him and Kassandra, he doesn't have to worry much about in the way of job security. Heidi skates down to the ring afterwards and we are on. Goodman dominates for most of the match and carries Hyde decently. Kassandra comes down during the match and superkicks Goodman just as he's locked in the Prime Example, drawing the DQ. Hyde and Kane brawl after the match while he counts the lights, ending in a painful crash through the announce table that takes out Johnny Dice!

Winner: Rick Goodman by DQ in 8:21.

Segment Nine: Dice is looking much better in a pre-taped segment with Mr Skyyn in Dice's Lounge. Skyyn sleazes it up but announces with championship he's using his Redemption Rumble shot to take; the Brass Knuckles belt. Wait, how did he know that was going to be a thing if Soulbane only brought it back halfway through the PPV? So the last match is a Triple Threat, I guess?

Segment Ten: Tom Hawk Vs. Mr. Skyyn Vs. Soulbane. At least Skyyn comes out to his own music this time. Soulbane's entrance features some spooky red lights and heavy metal music. He comes out to the ring with the Brass Knuckles championship in one hand and pulling a little red wagon full of weapons in the other. The match is a fun little garbage brawl, with each pair of workers battling each other while a big spot lets the third powder out. The finish is a bit wonky though. Out comes Rick Goodman who starts smashing away at Tom Hawk. It's a no DQ match, since the Brass Knuckles was always fought under hardcore, 24/7 rules when Sven held it back in the day. But then Goodman covers Hawk, Skyyn covers Soulbane and we have a double count? That's a fun ending, but now there are two belts that are held up under controversy. Goodman and Skyyn are both super over with the crowd, but one of them should turn face if Larry wants to book them in a feud. If next month rolls around and Dixie Normous loses her belt in some weird ass, non-definitive way, I may give up on these recaps.

Winner: Rick Goodman/Mr. Skyyn by double pin in 10:40

PPV Recap - Heaven and Hell

We are LIVE In Des Moines, IA at the Wells Fargo Arena. Mike Standish and Johnny Dice are your boradcast team as they run down HEAVEN AND HELL's two big events. The Heaven Tournament will end with one victor as the new Triple Crown champion, while everyone that falls from the tournament is entered into the Redemption Rumble with the rest of the roster, where the winner of the battle royal is named the #1 contender to any of the championships in MMW.

Segment One: Bunny Mayweather interviews Bearonica, who brushes off the miscue but says that tonight, if they meet in the tournament, she wants Heidi to fight.

Segment Two: Bearonica Vs. "Dusty" Armstrong. Dusty get's the early advantage thanks to some brass knuckles and kicking Bearonica while she's down. The ref catches the knuckles and strips them from Armstrong, who turns around into the BHS and lands hard. (He needed to be escorted to the back with a mild concussion.)

Winner: Bearonica via Bear Hug Suplex in 4:17.

Segment Three: Rick Goodman vs. Freight Train. As always, Freight Train gets the crowd up with his energetic entrance, even if it leaves him gassed from all the dancing along to his theme song. Rick comes out all business, with Mike noting he refused to give an interview while he was in the tournament. He goes straight after Freight Train, but Train no-sells Goodman's flurry of punches. Train controls early with some big powermoves, including a huge back body drop that leaves Goodman flat on his back for several seconds. Train pays for working the crowd by with a nasty armbar on Train. Goodman pulls one of his patented "Rick Moves" by switching the armbar to Train's other arm and "Woo! Wooooo!" ing right into Train's face while wrenching down on the arm. He climbs on Train's back to cinch in the Prime Example but Train goes around the ring a few times with his opponent on his back. Finally, Goodman clips Train's leg to put him on the ground and the big man taps out.

Winner: Rick Goodman via The Prime Example in 11:16.

Segment Four: Dice's Lounge. It's a pre-taped interview between Johnny Dice and his pick to win the tournament, fellow heel Mr. Skyyn. Skyyn hits on Bearonica from afar, sits with his crotch viewable by the camera the whole time and even makes Dice look uncomfortable by the end.

Segment Five: Lance Stromowski vs. Mr. Skynn. Lance's entrance features big flashes of light, which seem to be there to distract from his distinct lack of charisma. Skynn, on the other hand, has the crowd booing, despite the large amount of female fans seemingly won over by his oily charm. Lance's offense seems mostly brawling and charges, which Skyyn counters to chat up some ladies at ringside. He smashes Lance's head into the barricade and finishes his opponent off to the men in the crowd chanting "Ess Tee Dee".

Winner: Mr. Skyyn via Pick Up Line in 6:10.

Segment Six: Bunny catches Rick backstage talking to someone on his cell phone. Rick admonishes the ambush and cuts a promo on Mr. Skyyn, who should pay for his sloppy, unfocused work.

Segment Seven: The final match in the first round features Heidi Hyde vs. El Coyote. Heidi now skates around the ring, not just down the ramp. El Coyote still takes forever to get to the ring, though his mariachi cover of Hotel California theme is still cool all these years later. This match doesn't get much of a start, though Coyote stays in control for most of it. He works her over on the outside, rolling in twice to extend the count. Heidi catches him on his third roll in with a hard dropkick that sends him over the ring steps. Coyote stays down outside the ring for the count-out and the look on her face makes me think she wasn't supposed to win that way. El Coyote is helped to the back afterwards.

Winner: Heidi Hyde via count-out in 8:05.

Segment Eight: Kassandra Kane, in her overwrought goth style, announces a twist to the tournament in a pre-taped segment. The next round will be a tag match featuring the four remaining wrestlers and the winning team will face each other for the Triple Crown Championship.

Segment Nine: Bearonica/Hyde vs Goodman/Skyyn. Neither team seems happy with their partner. Bearonica and Goodman to start. The match mostly takes place on two fronts, with Bearonica and Goodman in the ring and Hyde and Skyyn outside. Bearonica and Goodman go back and forth with Goodman just taking control toward the end. Skyyn interrupts Heidi's rally cries and she knocks him into the ring during their brawl, just as Goodman's pin attempt would have sealed the victory for their team. The ref calls for the DQ.

Winner: Bearonica and Heidi Hyde via DQ in 6: 23.

Segment Ten: Skyyn and Goodman are still brawling with each other as the other entrants come in for the Redemption Rumble. Skyyn throws Lance right at Goodman, who ducks and eliminates the boss's son. Dusty and El Coyote eliminate each other. Freight Train and Adam Rockit battle big man on big man. Dixie Normous waits in the corner while "Another"Armstrong tries to come out after Dusty heads to the back. Adam Rockit goes to yell at the Armstrong, allowing Dixie to hit Freight Train with the Mama-Can-Rana and over the top with the help of Mr. Skyyn. She also takes out Adam Rokit with the help of Rick Goodman. then they team up and throw her out. The former tag parners face off at the first and final two men in the ring. Despite his technical claims, Goodman falls to the Pick Up Line, getting dumped out of the ring as he fell. Mr. Skyyn is your new #1 contender.

Winner: Mister Skyyn at 9:56.

Segment Eleven: Bearonica vs. Hyde for the TCC belt. Before the match begins, Hyde cuts a promo saying that Bearonica should be champ because Hyde doesn't belong in the ring so she's going to give her the championship.

Bearonica charges and the bell rings. She's furious at Heidi for not fighting back. She's not just using power movies but some of Heidi's hardcore trademarks against her. There's a particularily brutal powerbomb through the announce table but after that, Heidi comes up bloody and fighting. She beats back the monster and hits her a few times with skates. Bearonica powers back (though the sequence looked a little weak) and pulls the skates away to whip Hyde. She grabs Hyde's face, says "Never stop fighting" and hits her with the BHS. The ref counts 1..2...kick-out!

Bearonica is stunned. Heidi is up...and then rolls out of the ring! The ref counts her out and we have a new Triple Crown Champion?

Winner: Bearonica via count-out in 13:21.

We fade to black with Bearonica refusing to put on the belt as Heidi slowly back away from the ring. What is going on here?
